Tadic:Serbia needs no atmosphere of rallies, counter-rallies

BELGRADE - Serbia does not need the atmosphere of rallies and counter-rallies because it takes the country back to the 1990s, Social Democratic Party (SDS) leader Boris Tadic said on Monday.

Unlike one part of the opposition, the SDS will on April 27, the first anniversary of the current government, stage a campaign titled "12 months, 12 missed chances" in 12 Serbian cities to present to citizens a programme for solving the crucial problems in Serbia.

Speaking at a press conference, the former Serbian president said that investments have slumped dramatically over the past three years, that the budget deficit is enormous and that entire state sectors are collapsing due to a lack of a good strategy of running the country.

Tadic also presented specific measures to solve these problems, which include dealing with non-performing loans, a better investment policy and solving issues in education, mining and energy.
