Orban, Pastor discuss development programmes

SUBOTICA - Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM) leader Istvan Pastor have discussed "economic and spatial development plans" prepared by SVM experts.

Pursuant to the agreed details, discussions on these programmes will begin in Subotica as early as next week in collaboration with an expert team of Hungary's Ministry of National Development, the Vojvodina Today portal reported late Monday, quoting a statement from Orban's office.

Pastor thanked Orban for subsidies for the system of scholarships in higher education, as well as for the support to programmes aimed at preserving the tradition and use of the language of the Hungarian minority in Serbia.

Thanks to hundreds of millions of forints of aid from Hungary, the renewed heritage of the Vojvodina Hungarians can become a prominent tourist destination, Pastor noted.

Also addressed during the meeting was the upcoming SVM electoral conference, the portal said.
