Documentary 'The Promise' to be presented in Barcelona

BELGRADE - 'The Promise' ('Obecanje') the latest project by renowned Serbian director and screenwriter Zeljko Mirkovic, has been selected for Speed Meetings on May 28-29 at the international documentary film festival DocsBarcelona, the Film Center Serbia (FCS) released on its website.

Speed Meetings provide an opportunity for filmmakers to present their projects to potential financiers and film distributors in 15-minute one-on-one meetings.

The project received support from the FCS for the co-financing of minority co-productions, and it will be produced by SEETV Belgium and Optimistic Film Serbia.

Mirkovic rose to prominence with his full length documentary 'The Second Meeting', about a peacetime meeting between the American pilot who flew the 'invisible" F-117A during the NATO bombing of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, and the officer of the FRY army who shot him down. Mirkovic's documentary 'Svetislav Pesic, More Than A Coach' was screened at the Belgrade film festival in March.

The story of 'The Promise' takes place in a poverty stricken village in eastern Serbia. The village gains some unexpected new residents, a family from France, who believe they have found the promised land for planting vineyards and making wine.
