Deadly Storm Kills Eight, Injures Dozens, in Romania

Eight people have died and at least 67 were injured on Sunday night when a violent storm in western Romania, with winds of up to 100 kilometers (60 miles) an hour.

The storm ripped out trees and downed power lines. Many any homes are without electricity in Timis and Caras Severin counties at the border with Serbia.

Several people were also injured when the storm hit Serbia on Sunday afternoon.

Romanian officials warned residents to stay at home or take shelter, to remove appliances from sockets, and to stay away from power transmission towers.

Sunday's storm followed days of high temperatures.
