Deputy PM Birchall conveys in Washington Romanian Gov't's commitment to develop Romania-US Strategic Partnership

Deputy Prime Minister for implementing Romania's strategic partnerships Ana Birchall met on Monday in Washington with Secretary of State of the US Mike Pompeo and Secretary of Energy of the US Rick Perry, occasion on which she conveyed the commitment of the Government in Bucharest for deepening and developing the Strategic Partnership between the US and Romania.

According to a release of the Executive sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday, Ana Birchall underscored, during the meeting with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at the US Department of State, the consistency of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the US, also confirmed by the success recorded by the Strategic Dialogue annual meeting that took place last week in Bucharest.

The Romanian official remarked the excellent cooperation and coordination between the two countries on topics of shared interest, such as the prospects to deepen the economic dimension of the partnership.

Moreover, the two officials talked about strategic cooperation, management of threats on the Easter Flank by the equitable burden sharing of responsibilities inside NATO, as well as about the importance of the US companies' presence in the Romanian energy sector.

Ana Birchall thanked the US for the support related to Romania's candidacy to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Deputy PM Birchall talked with Secretary of Energy Rick Perry about cooperating in the area, capitalising on the energy resources of the Black Sea, aspects regarding the regional energy security and developing transport and inter-connectivity projects, with an emphasis on the National Gas Transmission System on the Bulgaria-Romania-Hungary-Austria (BRUA) corridor project.

Furthermore, Ana Birchall reiterated the firm commitment of Romania's Government to ensure a transparent and attractive investment climate for companies that invest in the energy area, through projects diversifying energy sources and transport routes.

According to the quoted source, Deputy PM Birchall, alongside Secretary Perry and Vice-President of the European Commission Marcos Sefcovic were the main guests of a meeting organised by the Department of Energy with the delegation leaders of the countries attending the "Three Seas Initiative" Summit.
