Most visited tourist destination in Serbia revealed

The Tourist Organization of Serbia (TOS) has announced that Mt. Zlatibor saw a nine percent increase in the number of overnight stays of domestic tourists.

This data pertains to the first half of this year, compared to the first half of 2017.

Zlatibor, located in western Serbia, also recorded an increase in the number of overnight stays of foreign tourists - 12 percent more year on year.

This makes the mountain resort, which is marking 125 years of tourism development, the most visited destination in Serbia, according to the TOS.

The trend is expected to continue, the organization said, referring to Zlatibor - whose name is a compound from Serbian words "golden" and "pine" - as "the golden mountain." Its visitors can expect "rich cultural programs this summer, many attractions and entertainment," a press release said.
