Biathlon: Laegreid takes men’s individual tile

Pokljuka – Norway’s Sturla Holm Laegreid took his second gold at the Biathlon World Championship on Pokljuka on Wednesday, beating Germany’s Arnd Peiffer and compatriot Johannes Dale in the men’s individual event.

Laegreid, who was part of the team that won the mixed relay a week ago, and Peiffer made up for late start with perfect shooting records, but the Norwegian beat the German by 16.9 seconds. Dale missed a shot, clocking a lag of 40.9 seconds.

“It’s something you’ve dreamt about your whole life,” said Laegreid, whom the feat made the best newcomer to the biathlon circuit following his World Cup debut last year.

He will only turn 24 on Saturday, and he already has five World Cup wins and two World Championship titles under his belt.

The best Slovenian, Jakov Fak finished 21st after he missed three shots in the standing position, which quashed his hopes for a better showing.

“There was too much emotion in final shooting, the desire for achieving more being strong,” Fak commented.
