Štuhec and Kranjec keep Slovenian skiing fans proud
Slovenian Alpine ski racers kept their contact to the world's best this season, owing to Ilka Štuhec in the women's World Cup and Žan Kranjec in the men's competitions. Štuhec finished as the runner-up in the overall downhill standings and Kranjec placed third in the final giant slalom standings.
Kranjska Gora welcomes giant slalom aces
All is set in Kranjska Gora for two men's giant slalom races to be held this weekend as part of the annual Alpine Skiing World Cup meet hosted by one of Slovenia' biggest winter season destinations.

Shiffrin ties Vonn’s record in Kranjska Gora
US skiing champion Mikaela Shiffrin won the second of two giant slalom races in Slovenia's Kranjska Gora on 8 January for her 82nd World Cup career victory, matching the women's record held by her compatriot Lindsey Vonn.

World’s top biathletes gather on Pokljuka
Pokljuka, a thickly-wooded plateau in the north-west of Slovenia, is hosting the world's best biathletes on the World Cup circuit from 5 to 8 January. Close to 270 competitors from 31 countries are expected to take part.
The last time the Pokljuka hosted an international biathlon event was nearly two years ago during the 2021 World Championships.

Tim Farčnik elected to biathlon federation executive board
Salzburg – Slovenia’s Tim Farčnik has been appointed to the executive board of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) at their 15th Ordinary Congress in Salzburg, Austria, the Slovenian Ski Association (SZS) said.
Farčnik will join five other members of the executive board in the 2022-2026 period.

Slovenia grab second place in team jumps
Lahti – Slovenian ski jumpers Žiga Jelar, Cene Prevc, Timi Zajc and Peter Prevc took second place in the World Cup team event in on Saturday, finishing only 5.5 points behind the winners Austria and over twenty points ahead of third-placed Germany.

Mental health vital to success of athletes: Expert
In order for athletes to stay in good mental health, training should be given to help them overcome anxiety, improve concentration, build confidence and even manage anger, a Turkish expert has said, amid an ongoing debate that some of the athletes at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games had to deal with high expectations that led to overwhelming pressure.

Slovenia finish 7th in Olympic mixed team parallel slalom
Beijing – Slovenia did not make it past the quarter-final of the mixed team parallel slalom on the last day of the Beijing Olympics, finishing 7th out of 15 teams overall after being eliminated by Austria, who went on to win gold.
