Turkish Paralympic athlete decries notary's extra 'stair fee'

A Turkish Paralympic athlete who became the first Turkish tennis player to appear at the Paralympic Games, was forced to pay an extra fee to a notary because a notary descended 25 steps to bring documents to the woman, who was unable to come upstairs because she is confined to a wheelchair.

Thessaloniki port turns red (photos)

The citizens of Thessaloniki strolling along the port of Thermaikos were in for a surprise, as the waters had turned red. The natural phenomenon, which is known as the “red tide”, is created from a rapid development of uni-cellar photosynthetic plankton organisms. It is phenomenon that appears on a regular basis in Thessaloniki, which results in reddish spots on the water surface.

Strikes to suspend Athens metro, tram, ISAP on Wednesday, Friday

Athens commuters are set for fresh travel disruptions on Wednesday and Friday due to two planned 24-hour strikes by workers on the Athens metro, tram and the Piraeus-Kifissia electric railway (ISAP).

The strikes will mean services on the metro, tram and ISAP are totally suspended on Wednesday and Friday though will operate normally on Thursday.

Deniz Yücel, reporter from Germany's Die Welt, arrested in Turkey

The Turkish authorities on Feb. 27 arrested a correspondent from German newspaper Die Welt on charges of "propaganda in support of a terrorist organization" and "inciting the public to violence." 

Deniz Yücel, a dual citizen of Turkey and Germany, was initially detained by police on Feb. 14. 

Dodik to go to Moscow as EU's Mogherini arrives in Bosnia

Serb Republic (RS) President Milorad Dodik says he will travel to Moscow on Wednesday, "for an important meeting."

Dodik will for this reason miss the opportunity to meet with EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, who will be in Bosnia-Herzegovina as part of her "Balkan tour," Beta reported on Tuesday.

Two nightclubs attacked in Belgrade overnight

The Freestyler barge night club on the Sava River in Belgrade has been set on fire, the police confirmed on Tuesday.

There were no guests aboard the barge at the time and nobody was injured.
