After the Flood, Serbian Villages Left to the Mercy of a River

On the morning of June 3 last year, village head Djordje Matijasevic stood on the riverbank. It was raining heavily.

In nearby Guca, where hundreds of thousands of revellers gather for a raucous trumpet festival every August, the river at around 6 a.m. was 65 cm high. Three hours later it stood at 2.29 metres and by midday the water had risen to 4.40 metres.

RSF also urged Serbia to stop this dangerous escalation in threats to the freedom to inform.

The most serious case has been the wave of hatred unleashed against Tatjana Vojtehvski, an investigative reporter for the commercial TV station TV Pra, after the station screened the third in a series of reports by her about alleged embezzlement at a factory in the town of Lucani.

Sasa Krstic wins 54th Guca trumpet festival

GUCA, Aug 10 (Tanjug) – Winner of the 54th Trumpet Festival in the western Serbian town of Guca is Sasa Krstic from Zaguzanje, the Golden Trumpet audience award went to Goran Rankovic from Guca, the best orchestra was the one led by Dejan Jevdjic from Pozega and the most authentic musicianship was showcased by Ivan Jovanovic from Uzice.
