Athens optimistic over FYROM name talks

During a cabinet meeting on Monday, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said it would become clear over the next few days if real progress on the decades-old name dispute between Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) was "feasible."

Bulgaria to refer to Macedonia as FRYOM during EU presidency

Beta reported this on Monday, citing the website of Macedonia's Nova TV.

The report said the statement was made by Bulgaria's Ambassador in Brussels Dimitar Chanchev, who explained this was his country's obligation "despite relations between the two neighboring countries improving, including a joint session of their governments."

Skopje and Athens could solve name dispute "by July" - Zaev

"I believe it's possible to find a solution by the end of the first semester of 2018," Zaev told Greece's Alpha TV on Saturday.

"Our strategic orientation is conclusively the EU and NATO," Zaev said.

Multi-bill, FYROM talks on agenda in cabinet meeting

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was to chair his first cabinet meeting for 2018 on Monday morning with the multi-bill of pending prior actions and diplomacy ahead of talks aimed at resolving a longstanding dispute between Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia over the latter's name to top the agenda of discussion. 

Macedonian, Greek Nationalists Mobilize Against 'Name' Deal

Right-wing nationalist and diaspora organizations in both Macedonia and Greece have launched campaigns against what they fear may be a rapid solution to the long-running dispute over Macedonia's name.

In Greece, the campaign is focused against any compromise name for their northern neighbour that includes the term "Macedonia", which they insists is exclusively Greek.

Zaev says solution is coming on FYROM's name

The name issue is about to be resolved between Athens and Skopje, with a concrete proposal to be made public shortly, said Zoran Zaev in an interview aired on Greek TV on Sunday evening.
