Turkish Interior Ministry reshuffles 22 provincial police chiefs

A total of 22 provincial police chiefs have been reshuffled with a decree issued by the Interior Ministry published in the Official Gazette on Aug. 19.

Assignments and reshuffles have also been made in the Gendarmerie General Command, local authorities, and police department.

Three deputy police chiefs' duty posts have also been changed.

Cutting defense ties with Turkey illegal: Qatar

Cutting Qatar's defense ties with Turkey is an "obvious intervention of internal affairs," Qatar's ambassador to Ankara said Aug. 19.   

"This is against all international laws and norms," Salem bin Mubarak Al-Shafi said in a written statement about demands to close the Turkish base.        

At least 252 curfews declared in Turkey in last two years

More than 250 curfews were declared in Turkey over the last two years, according to the information gathered by the Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (HRFT) Documentation Center.

The foundation said that between Aug. 16, 2015 and Aug. 16 of this year, there have been at least 252 officially confirmed round-the-clock and open-ended curfews in 11 provinces and at least 45 districts. 

Evacuated lion from war-torn Syria to Turkey's Bursa gives birth in Jordan

A lion evacuated from the war-torn province of Syria's Aleppo to the Marmara province of Bursa gave birth in Jordan on Aug. 12.

The lion named "Deina," was pregnant when she was brought to Bursa. She gave birth after she was transferred to a zoo in Jordan.
Officials in Jordan's Al Ma'wa Protection Center of Wildlife and Nature gave the name "Hajar" to the little lion cub.
