Prince Edward to Visit Bulgaria

Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, arrives on Monday in Bulgaria upon the invitation of Bulgaria's President Rosen Plevneliev.

Prince Edward is the chairperson of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and will arrive in Bulgaria on the occasion of the centenary of the start of World War I.

BUDAPEST -- Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has declared victory of his Fidesz party in parliamentary elections held on Sunday.

Orban said that the voting results showed that Hungary was "the most united nation in Europe."

Coalition will not call snap elections, insists Venizelos


PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos has ruled out the possibility of the government calling snap general elections.

“There is no such issue,” Venizelos said during a televised news conference on Sunday. “People do not want elections, this is clear to see.”

Inmate found dead at Korydallos Prison, suicide suspected


The Justice Ministry has ordered an investigation into how an inmate at Korydallos Prison was found dead in the jail’s psychiatric word on Sunday. It is believed that the 40-year-old committed suicide by hanging himself with his shoe laces.

Income criterion insufficient for social dividend distribution

Almost half of Greece’s households appear to have survived on a monthly income below 800 euros in 2012, according to a report compiled by the Finance Ministry, which showed that 2,751,856 taxpayers, along with their spouses and protected members, declared an annual income of up to 9,500 euros for that year.

Ivaylo Filev Wins European Weightlifting Gold

Bulgaria's Ivaylo Filev won the gold medal in the 62kg category at the European Weightlifting Championships in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Filev lifted a total of 299kg from his two attempts, for his first ever European title. His best achievement so far had been a bronze medal from the World Championships in 2007.

Ivanovic beats Jaksic in Monterrey final

MONTERREY- Serbia's Ana Ivanovic won the tennis tournament in Monterrey, Mexico, by beating 20-year-old compatriot Jovana Jaksic 6-2, 6-1 early Monday in the final match that lasted just 60 minutes.

It is Ivanovic's 13th title, while Jaksic made her first appearance in a WTA final.

Ivanovic won USD 111,389 and 250 WTA points, while Jaksic won USD 55,435 and 150 WTA points.

Port workers launch work stoppage ahead of two days of strikes over privatization


Stevedores across the country walked off the job until 11 a.m. on Monday in a protest against the planned privatization of Thessaloniki port.

A 24-hour strike has been called for Tuesday, when Parliament will debate the relevant legislation.

The port workers will also take part in Wednesday’s general strike.

Prosecutor to question Baltakos over Golden Dawn video


Former cabinet secretary Panayiotis Baltakos is due to face a prosecutor on Monday as part of the probe into the secretly filmed footage of his conversation with Golden Dawn spokesman Ilias Kasidiaris.
