Two people have died in the latest outbreak of violence in Venezuela’s anti-government protests.

A National Guard soldier was killed on Monday in Merida, while a 28-year-old pregnant woman was confirmed dead on Sunday in Guaicaipuro, near the capital Caracas, Al-Jazeera reported.

Anti-government protesters clashed with police in Venezuela after the arrest of two opposition mayors.

Police used tear-gas and water cannon to disperse hundreds of demonstrators who hurled stones and sticks at security forces in the capital Caracas.

At least 2 protesters have been killed in Venezuela, as violence on the streets escalates once again.

Demonstrators demand the resignation of President Nicolas Maduro over food shortages and failed economic policy. The violence, concentrated mostly in the capital Caracas, has already claimed at least 20 lives, Euronews reports.

Venezuela's president Nicolas Maduro said he cuts the diplomatic and commercial ties with Panama, because of “a conspiracy” against him. 

In a speech marking the anniversary of the death of his predecessor Hugo Chavez, Maduro said Panama was trying to pressure him.
