Fire breaks out in Viotia

A wildfire broke out in low vegetation in Viotia, northwest of Athens, on Friday. 

The Fire Service said ground and air forces were at the area of Agia Triada, together with a team from arson unit. It was not clear if authorities had found indications that the blaze was an arson.

Police launch arson investigation after car explodes in Patissia

A car was destroyed in an explosion in the capital's Patissia district in the early hours of Monday morning, in what police believe to be an arson attack.

A second vehicle sustained damage in the blast, which occurred at 5 a.m. at the intersection of Kaftatzoglou and Samara streets. 

Fire Service reports 67 blazes in forest and agricultural areas

In what could be a foretaste of the summer, the Fire Service said on Thursday that a total of 67 blazes in forest and agricultural areas occurred in a 24-hour period between Wednesday and Thursday.

Of these, the Fire Service said 56 were dealt with immediately, at their initial stage, while firefighters were tackling 11 more.

Larissa battles forest blaze amid nationwide firefighting effort

A forest fire broke out in the Elafos area of Larissa, central Greece, with 70 fires reported nationwide in the past 24 hours, according to the fire brigade. 

In Larissa, 42 firefighters, supported by two foot patrol teams, 14 vehicles, and aircraft, are battling the blaze. 

Of the nationwide fires, 57 were swiftly contained, while 13 remain active. 

Vehicles torched in university campus arson attack

Unknown assailants carried out an arson attack on vehicles on the University Campus in the Zografou district, eastern Athens, in the early hours of Sunday.

According to state-run broadcaster ERT, a group of individuals exited the campus and set fire to parked vehicles before returning to the university grounds.

Japanese man sentenced to death in anime arson trial

A Japanese court on Thursday sentenced to death the perpetrator of a 2019 arson attack on an animation studio that killed 36 people, local media reported.

The blaze that ripped through the studios of Kyoto Animation four-and-a-half years ago was Japan's deadliest crime in decades, stunning the anime industry and its fans around the world.
