Canberra 'mistaken' in support for Palestinian capital in East Jerusalem, minister says, The Guardian reports.

Israel signalled its displeasure on Sunday with Australia's recognition of West Jerusalem as its capital.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has confirmed that his government will recognise West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, reported BBC. 

However, he said Australia's embassy would not move from Tel Aviv, until a peace settlement was achieved.

He added Australia also recognised the aspirations of the Palestinians to a state with a capital in East Jerusalem.

The families of Athanasios Dimopoulos and Father Nikolaos Athanasoulis attended an event at Kryoneri in Corinthia on Wednesday that recognized the two men posthumously as Righteous Among the Nations for rescuing Greek Jew Rivka Kamchi and her family from the Nazis during World War II.

Turkey slammed Israel over the approval of building nearly 800 new housing units in the illegal settlements in occupied East Jerusalem on Nov. 11.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Thursday in an interview broadcast by Antena 3 private television station that he is looking forward to the day when Romania, alongside other countries, moves its Embassy for Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and gave assurances that when the move materialises, the Israeli Government will be there with "a red carpet."

Turkey will open an embassy in Asuncion, Paraguay, the South American country said on Sept. 7, a day after President Mario Abdo reversed the previous administration's decision to move its diplomatic mission in Israel to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv, Reuters reported. 

Paraguay said on Sept. 6 it was moving its embassy in Israel back from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv, prompting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to order the closure of Jewish state's mission in the South American country in retaliation.
