Women candidates fail to break through in Qatar vote

Qatar wrapped up its first legislative polls on Oct. 2 with no women elected to a representative council that is seen as unlikely to alter the distribution of power in the emirate.

The vote was for 30 members of the 45-strong Shura Council, a body with limited powers that was previously appointed by the emir as an advisory chamber.

Formula 1 today confirmed that the Losail International Circuit in Qatar will be the latest addition to the 2021 FIA Formula One World Championship between the 19th - 21st November, with Ooredoo - the international communications company as the title sponsor.

Qatar will join the F1 calendar under a 10-year deal from 2023.

Turkey allows Qatar to deploy 36 warplanes, 250 personnel for training purposes

The Technical Regulation on the Deployment of Qatar Military Aircraft Personnel in Turkey signed between Ankara and Doha has been submitted to the parliament. Accordingly, Qatari fighter pilots will receive their training in Turkey, and Qatar will be able to keep 250 military personnel and 36 warplanes in the country for training purposes, daily Hürriyet reported on July 1.

Turkish president meets Qatari foreign minister in Istanbul

Turkey's president met Qatar's foreign minister in Istanbul on March 27. 

The meeting between Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani at the Vahdettin Mansion lasted around an hour and 45 minutes.

Earlier this month, Turkey, Qatar, and Russia announced they plan to make joint efforts for a political solution to end the decade-long conflict in Syria.

Turkish foreign minister to begin Gulf tour

The Turkish foreign minister will embark on a three-day Gulf tour on Feb. 9 for official visits to Kuwait, Oman and Qatar.

According to a statement by the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Feb. 8, Çavuşoğlu will pay official visits to Kuwait, Oman and Qatar on Feb. 9-11 and "will hold talks with his counterparts and other high-level authorities" on the occasion of these visits.
