Supreme Court prosecutor Xeni Dimitriou on Thursday ordered the reopening of all case files relating to the activities of Artemis Sorras, the self-proclaimed billionaire and leader of nationalist political grouping Convention of Greeks.

Most of the case files relate to calls by Sorras's organization for Greeks not to pay their dues to the state and social insurance funds.

The Justice Ministry on Thursday pledged to allot an additional 3 million euros by the end of the year for improving conditions at the country's prisons, which have been criticized by rights groups for failing to adhere to European standards.

Greece is unlikely to be suspended from international competition after its government pledged to make key changes to a new sports law aimed at fighting violence and match-fixing, UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino said Wednesday.

Greek deputy sports minister Stavros Kontonis said on Wednesday he does not accept ultimatums by world and European soccer's governing bodies FIFA and UEFA.

Kontonis made the comment on Mega television in response to a fax sent earlier on Wednesday jointly by FIFA and UEFA to the Greek soccer federation.
