Disaster of biblical proportions

Three people have reportedly died as a result of the Daniel weather system which has been battering many parts of Greece for more than two days.

Two Austrian newlyweds were also believed to be missing after the holiday accommodation they were staying at was swept away on Tuesday in the Pelion region.

Death toll in Thessaly floods rises to three

An elderly man was found dead on Wednesday after being swept away in the area of Ellinopirgos at Karditsa, Thessaly, bringing to three the known number of fatalities caused by Storm Daniel.  

The 82-year-old man was found unconscious underneath a car. He had been swept away by torrential rain and flooding after leaving his house. 

Woman found dead amid severe rainstorm in Pelion

A woman was found dead near Paltsi, on the southeastern coast of Pelion in Magnisia, which was severely affected by the storm Daniel.

The 87-year-old woman had been reported missing for several hours.

She was discovered amidst a stack of wood. Eight firefighters were engaged in the operation to recover her body.

Greece battered by tropical storms 

The Daniel weather system has left a trail of destruction in the country as thousands of people confronted unprecedented conditions struggling to save their lives, abandoning property and cars. The focal point of the destruction was in the port city of Volos on the Pagasetic Gulf, and surrounding regions.

Floods in Greece: Authorities Warn to avoid Travel

Serious floods in Greece. One person died and hundreds of houses and roads were flooded in the central city of Volos.

The torrential rain and thunder in the area did not stop for 10 hours. On the island of Skiathos, the water swept away cars, flooded houses and hotels. In the Ilia district, hail destroyed the entire crop of the farmers.
