Old fisherman still homesick

The body of a sculpture that was smuggled from Aphrodisias in 1904 is still in Berlin. 

1898: Ottoman Emperor Abdulhamid II provided work permit to French engineer Paul Gaudin to work in a railway construction in the Western Aegean region. He was first employed in the Bursa-Mudanya line and then in the İzmir-Eskişehir line. 

Museum in Turkey's Aydın takes visitors back 2,500 years ago

With a veritable treasure trove of sculptures, the Afrodisyas Museum near Turkey's Aegean coast takes visitors back more than two millennia to sample some of the most striking statues produced in the region.

The ancient city of Aphrodisias, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage Temporary list, is located in the western province of Aydın's Karacasu district. 

Giant pool from ancient city comes to light

The ancient city of Aphrodisias, located in the western province of Aydın's Karacasu district, is home to a giant pool reflecting the magnificence of Roman-era cities that is set to be completely excavated by 2017. 

Listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the city has drawn attention for its well-preserved monumental structures. 

Historic bridge in Turkey's west collapses during restoration

An almost 600-year-old historic bridge in the Aegean province of Ayd?n will be rebuilt after it collapsed this past January during restoration works. 

The bridge over the Dandalaz creek in the Karacasu district of Ayd?n, which also boasts the ancient city of Aphrodisias nearby, collapsed on Jan. 30 during renovations.
