Police Officers Block Traffic in Sofia to Protest Planned Pay Cuts

Police officers blocked traffic in the central part of Sofia on Tuesday to protest cuts in their remuneration packages planned in the 2016 budget draft.

The Finance Ministry is proposing to cut in half the sum paid upon retirement, decrease the extra remuneration allocated for each year in service and cut the period of annual paid leave.

Bulgarian dairy farmers will stage a national protest on Friday due to the low purchasing price of milk and the lack of state strategy and support for the livestock breeding sector.

The producers are intending to block the traffic on the road between the towns of Dimitrovgrad and Haskovo on two occasions.

Maritsa Motorway Should be Launched by End of August - Minister

Bulgaria's Regional Minister Lilyana Pavlova announced in the town of Haskovo on Saturday that Maritsa Motorway is expected to be completed by the end of August.

Since the two lots of the motorway are funded under Operational Programme Transport, their completion until the end of the year is compulsory, the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) reports.

Bulgaria "has no intention" of abandoning South Stream

BELGRADE -- Bulgaria has no intention of stopping the South Stream project, Bulgaria's Minister of Economy Bozidar Lukarski has said in Belgrade.

There will be a meeting between the Russian and Bulgarian ministers of energy in Moscow on Friday to discuss the project, he added.
