Starbucks takes full control of China stores in $1.3 bn deal

U.S. coffee chain Starbucks has announced it will take full control of its mainland China outlets in a $1.3 billion deal, the largest single acquisition in the company's history.

It will buy the remaining 50 percent of its East China joint venture from Taiwan's food and beverage giant Uni-President, according to a company statement issued on July 27.

Chris Cornell – the lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave – has died aged 52, according to his representative.

In a statement issued to The Associated Press, Brian Bumbery said Cornell died Wednesday night in Detroit.

Part of nuclear waste site collapses in Washington state

A portion of a storage tunnel that contains rail cars full of radioactive waste collapsed Tuesday morning, forcing an emergency declaration at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in southeastern Washington state.
Officials detected no release of radiation and no workers were injured, said Randy Bradbury, a spokesman for the Washington state Department of Ecology.

The Turkish-origin gunman of the last year's deadly shooting at a shopping mall in Burlington, Washington, has been found dead in his cell in the Skagit County jail, the prosecuting attorney has said.

Arcan Çetin, 20, hung himself in his cell, according to a Skagit regional prosecutor, Doğan News Agency reported.
