Revelations that a candidate with ruling SYRIZA for the upcoming European Parliament elections has been convicted of defrauding the state fueled a political storm and public outcry on Friday, prompting the woman to pull out of the race.

Supreme Court prosecutor Xeni Dimitriou on Monday ordered an investigation into media reports alleging that European Union funds given to Greece for the migration crisis were mismanaged.

Dimitriou asked the head of the financial prosecutors' union, Marianna Psaroudaki, to launch an initial investigation to determine whether there is any basis to the allegations.

Three journalists of the newspaper Fileleftheros who were detained on Saturday over an article alleging the mishandling of EU destined for migrant reception centers following a legal suit by Defense Minister Panos Kammenos were released on Sunday. 

A number of dummy soldiers made of cardboard were sighted in watchtowers around military compounds, according to Cypriot newspaper “Fileleftheros”. The matter came to light when a citizen who was picking capers in a nearby field waved at what appeared to be a soldier in a watchtower, but noticed the figure did not respond.
