September's triple-witching and the rebalancing of indexes led to the largest daily turnover on the Greek stock market in the last three-and-a-half months on Friday. This was sealed in the closing auctions, when the benchmark reverted to positive territory at the end of another week of gains.

The Greek stock market demonstrated a clear lack of direction during Tuesday's session, with banks and the majority of smaller stocks heading lower while the other blue chips offset earlier losses and kept the benchmark afloat.

The majority of stocks enjoyed further gains in the wake of Friday's buying spree during July's first session at Athinon Avenue on Monday. The benchmark recorded a new 17-month high despite the significant reduction in trading volume.

The start of the long weekend in Greece on Friday was reflected in the much quieter trade at the Athens stock market, with prices and indexes split between winners and losers at the end of another week of gains.

The Greek stock market's usual buying targets - i.e. banks and Public Power Corporation - secured considerable gains at the start of the week, taking the benchmark to a new 13-month high as the market displayed its excitement at the formal announcement of a snap general election.

Warnings from the Bank of Greece and Goldman Sachs over the course of the Greek economy, not to mention international concerns on foreign markets over the raging trade war, led on Wednesday to the complete erasure of the gains recorded by the Athinon Avenue benchmark on Tuesday.

The Greek bourse wrapped up another week of gains on Friday, with the benchmark at a nine-month high. Still, trading volume eased and the positive momentum appears to have slowed.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 765.67 points, adding 0.20 percent to Thursday's 764.13 points. It rose for a third consecutive week, by 1.49 percent.

The Greek bourse continues to go from strength to strength, with its benchmark recording another eight-month high on Friday, boosted by the performance of bank stocks as well as the continued drop of the yield on Greek state bond ahead of a possible new issue. The Eurogroup decision mattered little for traders, as they had already factored it in earlier in the week.

The benchmark of the Greek stock market was spared ending in the red by the closing auctions again on Thursday, reversing its earlier losses and leading to a fifth consecutive day of gains.

The negative mood among domestic and foreign investors alike saw Greek stocks posting fresh losses at the start of the week, with the decline accelerating when European bourses headed south. The rather unexpected jump in Greek bond yields also contributed toward the stock drop.
