Easter liturgies were held in churches across the country, after which traditional egg-tapping contests were organized in many places. The belief is that the winner of the egg tapping contest (whoever's egg does not crack) will have the best health that year.
Many officials from the country and the region congratulated the citizens of Serbia on the great holiday.

Party leaders visit towns, islands ahead of Easter Sunday

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who is on the island of Tinos with his family, wished Happy Easter to Orthodox Greeks around the world in a post on the social media. Mitsotakis will be attending services on the island during the holiday.

Main opposition leader Alexis Tsipras was spending Easter with his family in Corfu, where he participated in the annual ritual of pot smashing.

Apart from the spiritual dimension of Easter, a prominent factor is the consumption of food, and meat in particular, during the holidays. Eating habits are a personal choice and are determined by a variety of factors, individual and collective, and the Easter holiday specifically is all about bringing people and families together to consume food.

Bulgaria: Easter Supplement of EUR 35 for People with Pensions below the Poverty Line

An Easter supplement of BGN 70 (EUR 35) will be given to elderly people whose pensions for this month are below the officially established poverty line - BGN 504 (EUR 258), announced Prime Minister Galab Donev. Thus, an additional amount will be available only for half of the pensioners. They will receive the supplement next week as a separate payment from their monthly pensions.

Easter shopping hours in Athens announced

The Athens Traders Association announced on Friday the proposed working hours for Athens stores during the Easter holiday season, which will start on Thursday April 6, and is as follows: Thursday, April 6 and Friday, April 7 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, April 8 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, April 9 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday-Thursday (April 10-13) from 9 a.m.
