Parliament to adopt animal protection law: AKP spokesperson

Turkey's parliament will pass a long-awaited draft bill on animal rights before the end of the current legislative session, the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) spokesperson Ömer Çelik said on June 7.

The issue was discussed at the party's Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting, the spokesperson said at a press conference following the gathering.

Turkey ready to mediate for Afghan peace: Ruling AKP

Turkey is ready to take part in mediation efforts for peace in Afghanistan and the region, the country's ruling party spokesman said on March 9. 

"Afghanistan is a very important country for us," Ömer Çelik, spokesman for the AKP, told reporters in the capital Ankara after a meeting of the party's Central Executive Board.

Parliament should expect reform packages soon, says Erdoğan

Turkey's parliament can expect to get new reform proposals shortly, the nation's president said on Jan. 27. 

"Soon we will begin to submit new reform packages, which we are about to complete, for parliament's consideration," Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told his ruling AKP's parliamentary group.

Opposition HDP launches march under tight security

Turkey's opposition Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) on June 15 started the "March for Democracy against Coup" in the northwestern province of Edirne and the southeastern province of Hakkari.

The march, which aimed to end in the capital Ankara on June 20, has faced restrictions including bans on entry and exit to some provinces due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.
