PM gets consensus with party leaders for diaspora vote though Tsipras rejects plan

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Friday achieved consensus with some party leaders on his government's plan to grant Greeks living abroad full voting rights but not with the leader of the main leftist opposition Alexis Tsipras, who rejected the basis of the initiative, which is the equality of each vote.

The fuss over the electoral law has overlooked a fundamental issue: namely that New Democracy and the Movement for Change (KINAL) are formally opposed to a system of simple proportional representation and support one which provides a majority bonus in terms of parliamentary seats.

Signaling a new wave of upheaval in the ranks of the center-left Movement for Change (KINAL), former socialist culture minister Pavlos Geroulanos on Friday underscored the need for the party to "return to the legacy" of PASOK, from which it was formed, and expressed his interest in assuming its leadership.
