Concerns for women’s social space in Turkey on rise, as key treaty enters into force

At a time when concerns are growing in Turkey due to an increasingly conservative and authoritarian political culture, which directly impacts the lives of women, the Istanbul Convention, a landmark treaty of the Council of Europe (CoE) dedicated to preventing and combating violence on women and domestic violence, is entering into force as of August 1.

PACE: Truth about Kosovo organ trafficking comes to light

STRASBOURG - President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Anne Brasseur has welcomed a report by special prosecutor John Clint Williamson concerning an investigation into the 1999 Kosovo organ trafficking case, expressing satisfaction that “truth’s onward march continues also in this case.”

Poroshenko slams Russia's 'insufficient' support for peace plan

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Thursday accused Russia of failing to fully back a peace plan to end the bloodshed in the east of his country.
      
The plan "will only be able to work if Russia cooperates. Up to now unfortunately the support (from Moscow) has been insufficient," Poroshenko told the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.

Sculpture by Miro displayed at Baksı Museum

Joan Miro’s bronze sculpture “Femme aux beaux seins” (The Woman with Beautiful Breasts), is on display at the Baksı Museum, which won the Council of Europe Museum Prize for 2014

The museum was established in 2010 in the village of Baksı by Professor Hüsamettin Koçan and is located 45 kilometers away from the eastern Black Sea city of Bayburt.

Vucic on working visit to Sarajevo Tuesday

BELGRADE - Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic will visit Sarajevo on Tuesday, where he will meet with Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH) officials.

Vucic will confer with Chair of the BiH Council of Ministers Vjekoslav Bevanda and chairs and deputy chairs of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia-Herzegovina, the Serbian government's press office stated.
