Romanian authorities on Friday reported 13,854 new cases of people infected with COVID-19 in the last 24 hours while Thursday to Friday saw a new record death toll of 385 from COVID, raising the total death toll in the country to 38,927.

The Public Health Department on Friday said the number of infections of COVID-19 in Bucharest had increased to 12.24 per thousand.

Health Minister Nelu Tataru said today that a military management might be appointed at the Vrancea County Hospital, and that he will be in the county capital city of Focsani on Monday for an assessment of the situation. "Focsani and Vrancea County are a sore spot at the moment. There's a widespread community transmission here.

Prime Minister Ludovic Orban on Thursday called on the prefects and authorities at local level to urgently strengthen the Public Health Directorates by hiring competent people and called for the epidemiological investigations to be quickly carried out.

According to a British-Greek joint study conducted by the Imperial College of London, respiratory-related deaths in Greece declined during the years of the economic crisis.
