Hospital fire kills one patient in Istanbul’s Üsküdar

A fire broke out at a hospital in Istanbul's Üsküdar district late at night on March 24, claiming the life of one patient in the intensive care unit.

The fire suddenly broke out in the surgical block of the Sultan Abdülhamit Han Training and Research Hospital and claimed the life of an intensive care patient in serious condition, a statement by the Istanbul Governor's office said.

95-year-old coronavirus patient recovers

One of the latest survivors of the novel coronavirus in Turkey is a 95-year-old man, who was released from the hospital
with applauds in western Izmir city on April 6.

Ismail Kırdar, who was staying at a nursing home, was taken to the hospital due to high fever on March 25. He tested positive for the coronavirus at the hospital.

Hospital staff produced isolation stretchers from waste materials

Seven technical staff working in a hospital in the eastern province of Erzurum produced a stretcher made up entirely of waste materials for use in the fight with the COVID-19 outbreak.

Technicians aim to prevent the transmission of the virus to the people around, especially healthcare workers, with the "closed isolation stretcher" they produced.

Renowned Turkish children's book author Muzaffer İzgü dies aged 84

Muzaffer İzgü, a leading writer of children's books and works of humor, died at the age of 84 on Aug. 26 after a battle with cancer.

İzgü was diagnosed with cancer after being taken to the Atatürk Training and Research Hospital due to extreme weight loss. The father of three rejected cancer treatment and returned to his home in Istanbul, where he died on Aug. 26.

Two killed, six injured in lightning strike in Turkey's Erzincan

Two people were killed and another six were injured on June 14 when lightning struck people working in a field in the Oğulcuk village of the eastern province of Erzincan, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

Eight people, including two children, reportedly took shelter inside a hut after they were caught in the rain.

Fire erupts in hospital in central Istanbul

A fire erupted in Şişli Hamidiye Etfal Train and Research Hospital located in central of Istanbul on Jan. 14, Doğan News Agency has reported.

Fire crews arrived to the scene and extinguished to fire.

Turkish broadcaster CNN Türk announced that patients were evacuated. There was no casualties according to the initial reports. 

Locals find dead body while playing with snow in Ankara

Locals found the body of a dead man in a wasteland while they were playing with snow in Turkey's capital Ankara late on Dec. 28.

The incident occurred at 00:30 a.m. in the Yenimahalle district of Ankara. Some locals who went to the wasteland to play with snow found a man who was lying motionlessly. 

Police officers and a number of medics arrived at the scene.

Band plays for cancer patients receiving chemotherapy in hospital in Istanbul

A band has been giving concerts for nearly seven months in a hospital for cancer patients receiving chemotherapy in the Okmeydanı neighborhood of Istanbul. 
"Gönüllüler Korosu" (Choir of Volunteers) aims to help cheer up the patients while they receive their chemotherapy medications in the Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital, daily Cumhuriyet reported Oct. 3.
