The body of slain Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was likely burned in a large oven at the Saudi consulate general's residence in Istanbul, according to an Al Jazeera investigation.

A Turkish official has told the Washington Post that slain journalist Jamal Khashoggi's body was destroyed in acid on the grounds of the Saudi Consulate or at the nearby residence of the Saudi consul general.

Slain journalist Jamal Khashoggi was about to disclose some detailed information about Saudi Arabia's use of chemical weapons in Yemen and the U.K. had been made aware of a planned plot against him weeks before he was killed in the Saudi Consulate building in Istanbul, a British tabloid claimed on Oct. 28.

Saudi Arabia has defended its judicial process at the United Nations, arguing that the 47 people executed at the weekend had been granted “fair and just trials without any consideration to their intellectual, racial, or sectarian affiliation”.

Tensions between Sunni and Shiite Muslims in the Middle East have flared once again following the execution of a prominent Shiite cleric in Saudi Arabia.
