French author Annie Ernaux won this year's Nobel Prize in Literature on Oct. 6 for blending fiction and autobiography in books that fearlessly mine her experiences as a working-class woman to explore life in France since the 1940s.

Tanzanian writer Abdulrazak Gurnah has been awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.

The Swedish Academy said the award was in recognition of his "uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the effects of colonialism."

Born in Zanzibar and based in England, Gurnah is a professor at the University of Kent. His novel "Paradise" was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 1994.

Ljubljana – Drago Jančar, arguably Slovenia’s leading contemporary writer, has been nominated for this year’s Nobel Prize in Literature. He was nominated by the Slovenian Writers’ Association (DSP), the Slovenian PEN centre and the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SAZU).

Two Bosnian war victims' groups, the Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide and the Mothers of Srebrenica, held a small protest on Tuesday outside the Swedish embassy in Sarajevo to express anger about a letter from the Nobel Committee defending the award of this year's prestigious literature prize to Austrian author Peter Handke.

Polish novelist Olga Tokarczuk and Austrian writer Peter Handke won the 2018 and 2019 Nobel Prizes for literature on Oct. 10 after a year's hiatus in awarding the prize due to sex abuse allegations that rocked the secretive Swedish Academy, which selects the laureates.

(CNN) - This year's Nobel Prize in Literature has been postponed in the wake of a sexual and financial scandal that has engulfed the Swedish Academy, the cultural institution responsible for awarding the prestigious prize.

The Swedish Academy said yesterday it would postpone this year's Nobel Literature Prize for the first time in almost 70 years, as it is rocked by turmoil over links to a man accused of rape and sexual assault.

This year's winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature is the British author of Japanese origin, Kazuo Ishiguro, reports Bgnes. 

The award is given for his novels which, "with great emotional power reveal the abyss under our illusory sense of connection with the world," the Swedish Academy reported.
