UNWTO: Greek tourism is safe

The United Nations World Tourism Organization is reassuring about the potential impact of the heatwaves and fires on travel in the summer months in the Mediterranean. "If someone hesitates to visit Greece in July, they should do it in September," the director of the UNWTO for Europe, Alessandra Priante, told Kathimerini.

Proposal for online tourism training conference in Greece

Deputy Tourism Minister Sofia Zacharaki tabled a proposal for Greece to host the first conference of the newly created Online Education Committee of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), during a video conference of the committee on Thursday.

She also stressed Greece's recent leap in distance learning.

Turkish tourism sector may shrink 70% due to pandemic: Minister

Turkey's tourism sector will likely shrink 70% this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the country's culture and tourism minister said on Nov. 26. 

"It looks like we will end 2020 with slightly over $11 billion in tourism revenues and over 15 million travelers," Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said in an online session of the 10th International Resort Tourism Congress.

Tourism sector in Turkey will recover soon: UN tourism body head

The Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization has said he is confident that the Turkish tourism sector will recover in the coming period.      

In an interview with state-run Anadolu Agency on March 16, Taleb Rifai said Turkey was a "mature and consolidated destination" with a track record of fast recovery at times of crisis.
