Panathinaikos beats Barcelona and climbs to second in Euroleague

Panathinaikos defeated Barcelona and is looking good for finishing second in the regular season of the Euroleague, while Olympiakos saw off lowly Villeurbanne, in the latter half of the season's last double week.

First up, Olympiakos beat French visitors Villeurbanne 80-64 on Thursday at the Peace and Friendship Stadium to rise to fifth.

Last-gasp wins for persistent Reds and Greens

Olympiakos was rewarded for its persistence and defeated visiting Monaco on Thursday, as did Panathinaikos at Valencia on Friday, in a positive end of the week for Greek teams in the Euroleague.

Olympiakos outfoxed Monaco at the end of their game at the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Piraeus to win 75-73 for its 11th victory in 19 matches.

Greek away wins on either side of the Alps

Panathinaikos made it two out of two on the road this week in the Euroleague, as it followed its win at Monaco with a triumph at Armani Milano on Friday, just one hour after Olympiakos scored a road win of its own, downing Villeurbanne at Lyon.

The Reds overcame its lowly host with an 85-73 score in France to reach an 8-8 record.

Reds beat Bayern as Greens lose to Real Madrid

Olympiakos returned to winning ways in Europe with a win over Bayern Munich on Friday, but Panathinaikos suffered a third loss in succession on Thursday, going down to Euroleague leader Real Madrid.

The Reds defeated their German visitors 77-69 at the Peace and Friendship Stadium on a rather comfortable evening for the Greek champion.

Istanbul and Barcelona not hospitable for Reds and Greens

Olympiakos came close to completing an impressive fightback in the Euroleague and beat Fenerbahce in Turkey on Thursday, while Panathinaikos was nowhere near beating Barcelona in Spain.

The Reds lost 79-77 to Fener in Istanbul, and issued a statement protesting at referee decisions that it claimed shaped the result.
