Hamas-run health ministry says Israeli troops storm north Gaza hospital

The health ministry in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip said Israeli forces were raiding a hospital Tuesday in the north of the Palestinian territory.

"Israeli occupation forces are storming Kamal Adwan hospital after besieging and bombing it for days," ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said in a statement.

Israel strikes Gaza as truce ends

Israeli fighter jets hit the Gaza Strip on Friday shortly after a weeklong truce expired, the military said, as the war resumed in full force.

Airstrikes hit southern Gaza, including the community of Abassan east of the town of Khan Younis, the Interior Ministry in the Hamas-run territory said. Another strike hit a home northwest of Gaza City.

UN calls for immediate truce as death toll in Gaza tops 500

The U.N. Security Council called for an "immediate ceasefire" as Israel pressed on with a blistering assault on Gaza on July 21 taking the Palestinian death toll above 500.

U.S. President Barack Obama echoed the call in a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu early July 21, as Secretary of State John Kerry headed to the region to join true efforts.
