Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras arrived in the Aegean province of ?zmir for talks with his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davuto?lu on March 8, a day after the two leaders attended the key EU-Turkey summit in Brussels. 

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has arrived the Aegean province of ?zmir for talks with Turkish Minister Ahmet Davuto?lu. 

Tsipras was greeted by Economy Minister Mustafa Elita?, ?zmir Governor Mustafa Toprak and ?zmir Municipality Mayor Aziz Kocao?lu at the Adnan Menderes Airport at midday on March 8, Anadolu Agency reported.

Hundreds of women have taken to the streets on bicycles in multiple events in western and southern Turkey to raise awareness of sustainable transportation methods, as Sept. 20 marked "The World Cities without Cars Day."

The olive and myrtle tree saplings planted by Fener Greek Patriarch Bartholomew and ?zmir Mayor Aziz Kocao?lu have become tourist attractions. 

Bartholomew and Kocao?lu planted the trees at the garden of the Greek Orthodox Church of Agios Voukolos in ?zmir on Feb. 6.

The mayor of the western Turkish province of ?zmir, Aziz Kocao?lu, has been named among the ?top 10 mayors in the world? for 2014, in a ranking organized by an international think tank working on urban affairs, the City Mayors Foundation.

Kocao?lu came 10th in the Top 10 Mayors of the World 2014, organized by the City Mayors Foundation?s World Mayor Project since 2004.

?zmir lost to Dubai by a wide margin in its bid to hosit the Expo 2020. However, having lost twice in its Expo ambitions, ?zmir is now preparing to open the biggest fair complex in Europe.

Because ?zmir has always been managed by the main opposition Republican People?s Party (CHP), it has never been on good terms with the government.
