Turkey's main opposition prepares 'world's biggest petition' for jailed journalists, academics

The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) has been preparing what it claims to be the "world's biggest petition" for jailed journalists and academics in Turkey.

The CHP is set to hold a major rally in Istanbul's Maltepe district on July 9 to mark the end of its "justice march," which started from Ankara, and the petition is being prepared in the rally area.

'Justice March' and US apathy

If anybody is wondering whether the "justice march" in Turkey, which was initiated by the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) to protest the arrest of one of its own lawmakers, is drawing attention in Washington, the coverage by top American newspapers might give some clue. CHP leader warns of provocations as justice march nears Istanbul

Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the leader of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), has warned of potential provocations against the crowds walking with him in the "justice march" toward Istanbul. 

Following Kılıçdaroğlu's warning, armored vehicles were seen accompanying the march.
