Galatasaray wins at Fenerbahçe to end 20-year jinx

Galatasaray beat Fenerbahçe 3-1 in a Turkish Süper Lig game on Feb. 23, ending its 20-year jinx at Kadıköy and pushing its archrival further down the standings.

Max Kruse put Fenerbahce in front of a penalty kick that was confirmed by VAR, but Dutch defender Ryan Donk equalized for defending league champion Galatasaray in the 39th minute off a header in the box from a corner.

It has been more than 20 years since Galatasaray last saw a derby victory at archrivals Fenerbahçe's stadium.

It ended on Feb. 23 night, Galatasaray won 3-1 after an eventful derby in Turkish Super Lig.

At Fenerbahçe's stadium, Ulker, Fenerbahçe managed to evade Galatasaray's strong start to the match, eventually finding the leading goal after a penalty decision.

Romanian coach Mircea Lucescu took helm of the national team following Fatih Terim's departure last month, and his player choices have been the top subject heading to his debut match.

Arda Turan ready for return to Turkish national team

Turkey and Barcelona midfielder Arda Turan on Aug. 11 said he was ready to return to national team duty, two months after announcing his retirement from international football following a bust-up with former coach Fatih Terim.

Turan, Turkey's captain, had in June been thrown out of a training camp by Terim following a fracas with a reporter on a plane.

Mircea Lucescu takes over as Turkish national team coach

Romanian coach Mircea Lucescu took over as the Turkish national team head coach on Aug. 2, three days after Fatih Terim's departure. 

He is expected to meet with Turkish Football Federation (TFF) head Yıldırım Demirören in Istanbul.  

Lucesu was previously appointed as the coach of Galatasaray in 2000 and Beşiktaş in 2002.
