Bulgaria's No.1 male tennis player Grigor Dimitrov started successfully his participation in the first Grand Slam tournament for the year - the Australian Open on Monday.

In just over an hour Dimitrov defeated Dustin Brown from Germany with 6:2, 6:3, 6:2 in the first round of the men's singles competition in Melbourne, electronic daily Dnevnik reports.

Bulgaria's top tennis player Grigor Dimitrov has lost a Brisbane International semifinal match to Switzerland's Roger Federer 2:6, 2:6.

Federer took just 53 minutes to beat fourth-seeded Dimitrov on Saturday, thereby reaching the final of the Brisbane International.

Federer will now play Canada's Milos Raonic in Sunday's final.

Bulgarian tennis star Grigor Dimitrov defeated Slovakia's Martin Klizan 6-3, 6-4 in a match of the quarterfinals of the Brisbane International Men's Singles on Friday.

Dimitrov took 72 minutes to beat Klizan and reach the semi-finals of the tennis tournament.

His victory won him USD 22 800 and 90 points in the ATP ranking, according to reports of the BGNES news agency.

Star tennis player Grigor Dimitrov has won the award Bulgarian Sportsperson of the Year for 2014.
