Ljubljana – The Constitutional Court legalised same-sex marriage and adoptions with immediate effect after finding a law under which only heterosexual partners can marry and same-sex couples cannot adopt children to be in contravention of the constitutional ban on discrimination.

Ljubljana – Matej Accetto has been elected president of the Constitutional Court after his peers voted to give him a three-year term at the helm of Slovenia’s top court. He will take over from Rajko Knez on 19 December, the court said on Monday.

The law stipulates that the nine Constitutional Court judges elect the president from among their ranks in a secret ballot.

Ljubljana – The Constitutional Court has stayed a provision of a government decree which restricts travel to countries on Slovenia’s red list of high-risk countries due to Covid-19, pending its final decision.

In a decision published in the Official Gazette on Thursday, the court invoked its right to stay legislation to prevent the occurrence of irreparable damage.
