Justice minister criticizes court ruling in high-profile femicide case

Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ has joined the public anger by criticizing the "unjust provocation discount" a court has given in the case of Cemal Metin Avcı, the murderer of university student Pınar Gültekin.

Speaking at a conference on the law on June 23, Bozdağ highlighted that the issue of "unjust provocation discount" should be discussed.

İYİ (Good) Party leader Meral Akşener has criticized the "unjust provocation discount" given in the case of Cemal Metin Avcı, the murderer of university student Pınar Gültekin.

"They encourage women killers, shame on all of them," Akşener said addressing her party lawmakers on June 22.

Court ruling in high-profile femicide case faces backlash

The murderer of university student Pınar Gültekin, Cemal Metin Avcı has been served with a reduced prison sentence of 23 years on the grounds of "unjust provocation" on June 20.

The 13th hearing of the case was held at the Muğla 3rd High Criminal Court.

Avcı stated that he was remorseful and said that he committed the murder alone.
