Gov't braces for vote on Prespes deal amid tension

A second day of debate on the Prespes name deal is to culminate in a vote in Parliament late tonight with the government expected to secure ratification for the contentious accord.

Tensions are expected to peak with the speeches of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and conservative New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis in the afternoon.

Prespes name deal to go before Parliament's foreign affairs committee

The contentious Prespes name deal is to go before Parliament's foreign affairs committee at  5 p.m. on Monday for debate.

It remains unclear how many sessions the committee will require to examine the deal before forwarding it to the House's plenary for a vote.

Parliament Speaker Nikos Voutsis indicated last week that the deal will go to a vote by the end of this week.
 

Confidence vote to be held this week amid new political turmoil

Prompting a cycle of fresh political upheaval, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has said he would call a confidence vote in his government this week after his junior coalition partner Panos Kammenos announced on Sunday that he was quitting the government due to his objections with Tsipras on the Prespes name deal.
