Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım is set to assume roles in key public offices including the Saving Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) and the Turkish Wealth Fund, a post which was under the responsibility of Nurettin Canikli, who was appointed as the new defense minister after a cabinet reshuffle earlier this week.  

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan arrived in the Saudi city of Jeddah on July 23 on the first leg of his Gulf tour, which will also include Kuwait and Qatar.

Erdoğan was greeted by a number of Saudi officials upon his arrival at the King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud International Airport in Jeddah.

The Turkish government will use the necessary tools at its disposal if banks to not curb rises in deposit rates, ruling Justice and Development Party Deputy Chairman Cevdet Yılmaz told Reuters on July 6.

Yılmaz, the AKP's deputy chairman responsible for economic affairs, said the rise in deposit rates was damaging to everyone and added they should be brought to a reasonable level.

Turkey's leading defense companies Aselsan and Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI, also known as TUSAŞ) signed a deal with the Indonesian companies PT Dirgantara and PT Len on July 6 to collaborate on defense products.

Ankara is continuing efforts to implement further structural economic reforms, Deputy Prime Minister Nurettin Canikli said on July 5.

"We will continue to implement reforms. As per instructions of our president, we have a 180-day action plan and efforts are underway to implement it," Canikli said. 

Deputy Prime Minister Nurettin Canikli has said there are no users of the smartphone application ByLock among active lawmakers.

Canikli added that necessary measures were being adopted regarding those using ByLock, an application used by the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), within ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) organizations and former lawmakers. 

The Turkish government has said the "justice march" of main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to Istanbul "supports FETÖ," referring to what prosecutors call the Fethullahist Terror Organization (FETÖ), believed to have been behind the July 2016 coup attempt.
