President-elect of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on Wednesday decided that Romanian MEP Adina Valean would take over the transport portfolio in the future EU executive, after the same day Romania submitted two proposals for candidates for the position of European Commissioner.

In one of his first decisions after being confirmed in office by parliament, Romania's new Prime Minister, Ludovic Orban, has proposed two candidates, Siegfried Muresan and Adina Valean, as Romania's options to represent the country on the new European Commission. Its President-elect, Ursula von der Leyen, is expected to choose between them shortly.

Siegfried Muresan and Adina Valean are the picks of the Orban Government for Romania's European Commissioner.      The announcement was made Wednesday by Prime Minister Ludovic Orban, and the decision was made at a Government meeting also attended by President Klaus Iohannis.

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila said on Wednesday that Romania's new nominee for European Commissioner, Dan Nica, was not rejected by the EU executive body. "He wasn't rejected. I very much respect the media and I know that it plays a very important role in the Romanian state, but when false information is circulated in the public space this no longer provides a high reliability.
