Vuk Jeremic To Seek Serbian Presidency

BELGRADE - Former Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic has announced that he will run for president in the election scheduled for later this year. Jeremic made the announcement on January 15 in Belgrade.

The date of the election has not yet been set.

President Tomislav Nikolic has suggested he would run for a second term but has not yet made a formal announcement.

Vuk Jeremic announces his presidential bid

Former Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic has announced his candidature in the presidential elections, to be held in Serbia this year.

Jeremic, who in the past served as president of the UN General Assembly and now heads the CIRSD think-tank, made the announcement as he met with citizens in Belgrade during an event dubbed "Serbia in 2017."

Serbia's ex-FM Running for President

Former Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic has said he will run in the presidential election this spring.

On his website, he has posted a message arguing he is taking the step "for Serbia", vowing to repair the system together with his compatriots and create a developed country where "one does not whisper but speaks freely."

"Opposition must unite to defeat Vucic's candidate"

SDS leader Boris Tadic thinks the opposition must unite if they wish to defeat "the candidate of SNS leader Aleksandar Vucic" in the presidential elections.

"Both Sasa Jankovic and Vuk Jeremic have the potential to win, but only if one of them is a joint candidate while the other backs him," the former Serbian president told the newspaper Blic.
