A traffic police officer shot a minibus driver in the leg after a quarrel over writing a traffic ticket escalated in Istanbul's Maltepe district on June 25.

A traffic police officer stopped a minibus in Maltepe and wrote a ticket for permitting too many passengers onto the minibus. 

Police across Istanbul were on alert Jan. 18 after explosives were left around the city, with some of the would-be attacks committed in response to the clashes in southeast Turkey.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan continued his personal attacks on his opponent Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, joint candidate of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) and the National Movement Party (MHP), slamming him for knowing “nothing about politics.”
