Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Feb. 18 offered an olive branch to the Taliban, shortly after winning a second term in office.

An evidently confident Ghani embraced his supporters at the highly guarded Arg palace in the capital Kabul after the long-awaited results of last September's election were announced.

Afghanistan's incumbent President, Ashraf Ghani, won a slim majority of votes in a Sept. 28 election, delayed preliminary results showed on Dec. 22, in a poll that plunged the country into political uncertainty.

Felicity Party (SP) leader Temel Karamollaoğlu said on April 18 that his party wanted to hold a meeting with Abdullah Gül, who served as president from 2007 to 2014, if the "opportunity" rises.

Turkey’s President Abdullah Gül has sent a condolence message to Afghan President Hamid Karzai whose cousin, a close ally of presidential candidate Ashraf Ghani, was killed in a suicide bomb attack on July 29.

In his message, Gül expressed his sadness to have learned that Hashmat Karzai was killed in a terrorist attack in Kandahar, Anadolu Agency reported July 30.

The campaign team of Afghan presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah on Sunday released audio recordings which they said contained evidence of fraud against a senior member of the country's Independent Election Commission (IEC).
