A number of 2,824,594 pupils and kindergarteners start on Monday classes for school year 2019-2020. According to a release of the Ministry of National Education (MEN), this school year classes will be taught by a total number of 215,289 teachers and educators.

Turkey has shortened 13-week summer break for schools to 11-week in a move to increase efficiency in education, the education minister said on May 15.           

Around 18 million students in Turkey will begin the second semester of the 2018-2019 school year on Feb. 4. 

Semester-break for the students in preschool, kindergarten, elementary, middle and high schools will end on Feb. 4. 

Over 1 million teachers will also return to the schools after a two-week holiday.

The summer break will begin on June 14.

Nearly 18 million Turkish students received their mid-term report cards on Jan. 19 as schools across the country began a two-week winter break, with experts warning parents to appreciate their children for their efforts and not their grades.

A number of radical changes regarding entrance to universities in Turkey are on the way, with the announcement that 10 universities in the country have been determined as research-focused universities and that the current university entrance exam system will be completely changed. 

Turkey's Education Minister has given the authority to each governor's office in the country to determine school start time in the mornings on their own, asking them to take their province's specific climate and geographical conditions into account so that students can make more use of the daylight.
