"I've received assurances, we will not be in the package (with Serbia)"

Zdravko Krivokapic said that he had received clear assurances from all participants in yesterday's Intergovernmental Conference that they would support Montenegro so that it could meet the provisional criteria for Chapters 23 and 24 and become the first member of the European family to cherish true values of justice, stability, peace and democracy, Podgorica media report.

EU Parliament Raps Serbia, Montenegro on Media Freedom

The European Parliament, joined by the EU Enlargement Commissioner, Johannes Hahn, on Tuesday debated reform efforts made by Montenegro last year as a candidate country for EU membership.

The resolution called on Montenegro to tackle corruption and organised crime, as well as improve media freedom.

Montenegro Opens New Chapters with EU

At the Intergovernmental Conference on Tuesday in Brussels, Montenegro will start negotiations with the European Union on Chapters 18 and 28, dealing with statistics regulation and consumer and health protections.

Along with these, other two chapters will be opened for the first time, namely Chapter 29 on customs union and Chapter 33 on financial and budgetary provisions.
