Coronavirus cases exceed 1,000; 32 dead

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Greece has exceeded 1,000, according to the latest government briefing.

The number of confirmed cases nbow stands at 1.061, up 95 from 24 hours ago.

There were also 4 fatalities, bringing the total to 32.

EU fund absorption quadruples in late 2019

Payments from the European Union's Partnership Agreement for the Development Framework, known in Greek as ESPA, amounted to 32.7 percent of public spending over 2019, a statement by the Development Ministry noted on Friday. Decisions unlocking Elliniko development to be issued within August, minister says

Three joint ministerial decisions that will unblock a stalled multi-million-euro development project on Athens' southern coast will be issued by the end of the month, Development Minister Adonis Georgiadis said on Friday.

Speaking on Slai TV, Georgiadis said the decrees have already been written and are expected to clear the bureaucratic process for their publication within August.

Adonis and Chatzidakis are the new ND vice presidents

Newly elected president of New Democracy Kyriakos Mitsotakis appointed Adonis Georgiadis and Kostis Chatzidakis new vice presidents of the party.

Mr. Mitsotakis appointed MP Kostis Chatzidakis responsible for drafting the government program of the party and MP Adonis Georgiadis  responsible for the coordination of party’s parliamentary work, says ND’s statement.

Mitsotakis’s first statement as New Democracy leader

In his brief first statement as new president of the main opposition party New Democracy Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that today is a great and historic day for New Democracy.

As he explained, voters gave a clear mandate to proceed to party’s renewal, while the party continues to be united. “Together we move forward leaving behind what divides us,” he said.
